5th Annual VESfest Fundraiser for Camp Hope

Our 5th Annual Fundraiser for Camp Hope, The PTSD Foundation of America was an incredible success. Even in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which has greatly impacted our city, donors showed up in a way we could never have predicted. We invited all of them to attend our event, VESFEST, in November at West Alabama Ice House. The weather was gorgeous, we had a great DJ, and a hilarious comedian. We even had a blogger show up who has tens of thousands of followers, and when she found out what we were doing, she posted a video on her YouTube channel. We partnered with one of the food trucks there who gave a portion of their sales, and we also sold hotdogs to add to the funds. The silent auction was wildly popular, raising over $600 between all 5 gift baskets.
We sold thousands of raffle tickets, and garnered donations from August right up until the last day before the drawing. Because of the generosity of our donors, we were able to give away over 100 prizes, some with multiple items included. Some of the grand prizes were: destination getaways, Astros tickets, a big screen TV, and diamond earrings.

When it was all said and done, we were able to write a check to Camp Hope for $7500. The director told us that the money would go to help them in many ways. A large portion of the check we were able to write them was put into the building fund for the new construction which will almost double the size of the amount of Veterans staying at Camp Hope. It will be able to house 70 new Veterans-construction starts mid-year.

Another portion of the check went to buying food for their kitchen so they can have meals each day. Also some of the money is put into a fund that buys supplies for the Veterans when they graduate. For example, clothes and anything they need once they are no longer living on-site.

We love helping our Veterans who served their country so honorably, and look forward to raising money for Camp Hope again in 2018!
